[Lekooks] Help pollinators (and get a break from mowing your lawn) by joining 'no mow May' : NPR

My first blush reaction is to stay with the mowing schedule we have in
place. Like John mentioned, we already have areas on the property that we
intentionally don't mow. Plus, I'd hate to put any more stress on our
mower(s) and/or create more work down the line. I have yet to refamiliarize
myself with the plan that Sarah created. I hope to do so soon; life has
been busy.

Thanks,

Amy

P.S. - Don't ticks like long grass?

In my opinion, whether or not we mow it, there will be plenty of dandelions,
violets and creeping Charlie for the bees, as there always are. The
dandelions are the only flowers that get clipped off, and only for a day
before they're back. My concern is that in the areas where the grass grows
vigorously there will be a foot of grass to mow by the end of the month, and
the clippings will be a mess to deal with for the rest of the summer. I'm
concerned how it will make the property look, right there on the corner of K
and E. I do think it's great we have the unmowed areas. I think we need to
hear Amy Seay's and Sarah Ehrhardt's opinions, as they are the ones that
have put the most thought into planning and maintaining the landscape.

John

Assuming you are not spraying, the dandelions, violets and even creeping
Charlie, provide food for emerging native bees and other pollinators.

Our lawn gets lots of dandelions which should help the bees. I am up for not
mowing.

I'm confused. How does not mowing lawn grass help pollinators?

Unless you're replacing it with something else.

All, I just learned of this yesterday. I plan to try it at home this year.
Save the pollinators!
