On the eve of January 17th, we will honor and appreciate the life of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This is a Milwaukee/North Shore Family event sponsored by the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Milwaukee, From The Same Dust, Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee, United Methodist church of Whitefish Bay, Christ Church (Episcopal), Old Saint Mary's, Congregation Shalom, Our Lady of Divine Providence (Riverwest), Unitarian Church North, Saints Peter and Paul, Three Holy Women Catholic Parish, Saint Eugene Congregation (Fox Point).
We will celebrate with word, song and video the Faith and Vision of MLK by sharing these universal truths:
Oneness of Mankind
 Unity
 Justice
 Service
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. devoted his life to advancing equality, social justice, and opportunity for all, and challenged all people to participate in the never-ending work of building a more perfect union. He believed immensely in the power of individual action and collective hope. We acknowledge that racism is a public health crisis and have seen this crisis further laid bare by COVID-19. We also recognize the urgent need to model Dr. Martin Luther King’s pursuit of unity, equity and justice. We stand in solidarity with demonstrators in our neighborhoods and across the world who are fighting the systemic racism which continues to oppresses our marginalized communities. We recognize this United States Federal Holiday with unifying civic and community activities to celebrate, educate, advocate, and serve in memory of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (Bay Bridge Wisconsin - Community Organization)

CELEBRATEBLACKCULTURE!

The documentary film, Mr. Soul! (2018) celebrates the groundbreaking PBS series SOUL! from its genesis to its eventual loss of funding, against the backdrop of a swiftly changing political and social landscape.
>From 1968 to 1973, the public television variety show SOUL!, guided by the enigmatic producer and host Ellis Haizlip, offered an unfiltered, uncompromising celebration of Black literature, poetry, music, and politics—voices that had few other options for national exposure, and, as a result, found the program an improbable place to call home.
The series was among the first to provide expanded images of African Americans on television, shifting the gaze from inner-city poverty and violence to the vibrancy of the Black Arts Movement. With participants’ recollections and illuminating archival clips, Mr. SOUL! captures a critical moment in culture whose impact continues to resonate, and an unsung hero whose voice we need now more than ever to restore the SOUL of a nation. The pioneering performance/variety television program that ran on NET (National Educational Telelvision) from 1968-1973 showcasing African American music, dance and literature.
