The LCUUC Green Sanctuary committee has been collaborating since last
spring with several state and local organizations, including the Sierra Club,
on a Transportation Equity project in Waukesha County in particular, and
the State of Wisconsin in general.
The following article is in the Sierra Club John Muir Chapter
October-December issue:
We helped organize a Waukesha County Transportation workshop in Waukesha
on September 14, which was attended by over 80 people, including County
Executive Paul Farrow and several state, county, and local government
representatives, employers, and users and providers of public or subsidized
transportation services. The purpose of the workshop was to bring transportation
users and providers together to mutually understand what is needed, what the
priorities are, and what we can do. It was clear that the needs are there
and that plans have been formulated (by SEWRPAC, the South East Wisconsin
Regional Planning Commission) to identify and meet the needs, but these
recommendations have been largely ignored by our elected officials for various
reasons.
The next big event by our coalition will be a state Transportation Equity
Summit in Milwaukee on December 3. This is your opportunity to get in on
the “ground floor” to act to learn about and get actual change to happen.
You are invited to attend the next Green Sanctuary Committee meeting on
Sunday October 9, or the next coalition planning meeting at LCUUC on October 26
from 9AM – 11AM to find out how you can get involved.
See Ray Grosch, Jim Hansen, or Gerry Flakas for more information.
