Hello fellow kooks,
I am not writing to talk about the presidential election. We will
keep *lekooks
*free of any partisan discussion.
I am writing to share a website that will tell you who will be on your
ballot on November 8. Simply go here
https://myvote.wi.gov/en-US/PreviewMyBallot, and put in your address, and
you will see a sample ballot. It will show all the races that you will be
voting in.
We all have a choice of Ron Johnson vs. Russ Feingold for US Senate
For Congress, most of us are in either Sensenbrenner's district or Paul
Ryan's. (Some of us were switched from Sensenbrenner's to Ryan's a few
years back.) Both have opponents in this election:
- Sensenbrenner is being opposed by Khary Penebaker, a young man who
many of us met when he came to church a few months back who is passionate
about reigning in gun violence.
- Paul Ryan is being opposed by Ryan Solen.
You can see if you have a vote happening in your state legislative or
assembly district at this site. Many of our local races are unopposed
and/or won't happen until 2018, but this site will let you know so that you
can familiarize yourself with your local races. (For those in Delafield,
you also have an opportunity to vote on the "Move to Amend" to eliminate
Citizen's United, thanks primarily to the work of people in our
congregation.)
I hope many of us are considering getting involved in the election. There
are opportunities to phone bank and canvass - both in Waukesha, as well as
in Milwaukee. There will be a big push to Get Out The Vote (GOTV) as soon
as early voting begins in different areas - already happening in Milwaukee,
soon in our area. Consider voting early and helping with voting on
Election Day - either getting out the vote in Milwaukee, or there is also a
need for poll workers. You can work the polls anywhere in the county in
which you live. There is a need in the City of Waukesha.
http://www.waukesha-wi.gov/260/Become-a-Poll-Worker. You can work whole
days or half days.
We want this e-list to be nonpartisan, so I'm not suggesting which party to
volunteer for, but if you have questions about how to get involved, please
email me, or contact your local party.
Thank you all for being educated voters and for taking an active part in
supporting our democracy!
Kerry
