SOCIAL ACTION OPPORTUNITIES – Wednesday, January 28, 2025
Brought to you by the LCUUC Social Action Committee.
Things are happening fast! We’re trying to get information to you as quickly as we can.
IMMIGRATION ISSUES TOMORROW! WED, JAN 29 at 5pm
“Educational Program: About Some of the Recent Executive Orders and About Your Rights as an Immigrant” with Sarah Blackwell from blackwell law group and Marc Christopher from Christopher and De Leon Immigration and Criminal Law, sponsored by SOPHIA
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2025 at 5pm.
Live streaming of the presentation on the SOPHIA website: https://www.sophiawaukesha.org<https://www.sophiawaukesha.org/>
Due to the current immigration crisis, Bernie Gonzalez, former president of SOPHIA, has organized a presentation via Zoom with several expert immigration lawyers. The primary target is the immigrant community, which is the most affected, however it is also aimed for the general public. The main intention is to provide information about the rights and actions to be taken in the event of a raid. The attorneys will also provide the facts regarding the current situation and the executive orders on immigration issues and differentiate these from the myths which are out there. In recent days, a lot of false information has been shared that, far from helping, only confuses and scares the community.
REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS TOMORROW! WED, JAN 29 at 1:30pm
“Abortion and Reproductive Injustices in an ‘Anti-Rights’ Era
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 29, 2025 at 1:30pm on Zoom; Meeting ID: 485 196 9970; Meeting Code: 1sZQ5K
Zoom panel with Dr Rishita Nandagiri and Dr Joe Strong discussing the ongoing state of abortion-related care in the context of current (and increasing) criminalization and restriction of care. Drawing on their academic work from a range of global contexts, as well as their involvement in feminist abortion collectives, they outline the ways in which abortion care is shaped by intersecting injustices and inequalities as well as how these might be contested and resisted. Sponsored by the UW-Madison
>From Indivisible.org THURSDAY, JANUARY 30!
Join Indivisible’s co-founders this Thursday at 4pm to process the news and strategies for fighting back<https://act.indivisible.org/go/804373?t=19&akid=114679%2E128528%2EMahyYU>. With so much coming at us right now, it’s important to carve out time to come together in community and dig into what matters and what we can do about it. Indivisible’s Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin will lead the discussion and spend most of the hour answering audience questions.
Also from Indivisible.org:
Tell your senators to vote NO on Trump’s most dangerous nominees.<https://act.indivisible.org/go/804370?t=16&akid=114679%2E128528%2EMahyYU> Senate Republicans disgracefully confirmed Pete Hegseth as Defense Secretary on Friday by a historically small margin. If we can flip just one additional Republican to vote ‘no’ on Russell Vought, Kash Patel, Tulsi Gabbard, or RFK Jr., we can block their nominations. Let’s keep the pressure on. Fight back against Trump’s unconstitutional executive order on birthright citizenship<https://act.indivisible.org/go/804372?t=18&akid=114679%2E128528%2EMahyYU>. Last week, a federal judge temporarily blocked Trump’s blatantly unconstitutional order. We’ve got to continue fighting back to mitigate the harm and maximize political backlash. Our resource page has a number of actions you can take right now.
