SOCIAL ACTION OPPORTUNITIES
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 28 ALL DAY: ECONOMIC BLACKOUT
The economic blackout is an initiative of The People’s Union USA which describes itself as a “grassroots movement dedicated to economic resistance, government accountability, and corporate reform.” No Amazon. No spending on fast food, major retailers, or gas. Avoid using credit or debit cards to make nonessential purchases. Purpose is to send a clear message that the people have power. We don’t want corporate money corrupting our politics, we don’t want more tax cuts for billionaires, we don’t have to reward corporations that have abandoned diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. TELL CONGRESS TO OPPOSE THE SAVE ACT
The House and Senate introduced the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, which would require citizenship documentation to register to vote even though voters in every state are already required to affirm or verify their citizenship status when registering. It is already illegal for noncitizens to register and vote in federal or state elections. This bill is unnecessary, seeks to divide us, and creates another barrier to voting. VOLUNTEER FOR HIGH SCHOOL VOTER REGISTRATIONS
It is very rewarding to guide the students into becoming registered voters and engaged citizens. Most of the registrations last two to three hours. Take the online training at Voter Registration in Milwaukee and Waukesha Area High Schools2.pdf<https://drive.google.com/file/d/19suG83TrHONZxGTdLrwOZVGAfAv1b4fp/view?usp=sharing>. At the end of the training, you will see a form; please fill it out and submit it. Once we receive your form, we will put you on our volunteer list. Then we will notify you about upcoming registrations via email; you can sign up to volunteer. Please note: we only accept volunteers through our list. [Source: Wisconsin League of Women Voters]
