Lewis wrote this book in 1935, based on the rise of "good 'ol boy" populist demagogue Huey Long in Louisiana. His rise to power paralleled the rise of fascism in Europe at the time. I have the book if anyone wants to borrow it, or you can get it from the library.Gerry F.
PS parallels to today, especially with "Good 'ol Boy" JD on board, are remarkable.

The Wisconsin chapter of Writers for Democratic Action is presenting staged play readings of an abridged version of Sinclair Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here," a play about facism in America. The performances are free and you can attend the one in Waukesha and still make it to the concert at church!
