Hello All,
The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be rolling through Oconomowoc at
about 6:40 pm next Monday, Dec. 4. If you have never seen it, it is a
really fun experience. (It stops in Hartland before Ocon, so you could
also see it there) The train is all lit up and there is a short concert.
CP Railways does this to collect food, raise money and awareness for local
food pantries. Everything collected at each stop stays at the local pantry,
so all food and money at our stop will go to Oconomowoc Food Pantry.
We are looking for volunteers to sit with vans during the event and to walk
through the crowd collecting money before the train comes in. (job
descriptions below).
The following is a message and Sign Up Genius link from the Ocon Food
Pantry's Volunteer Coordinator.
The CP Holiday train will be making a stop in Oconomowoc on Monday December
4, and we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want to have fun and
participate in representing the pantry on this festive evening. The train
is scheduled to stop in Oconomowoc from 6:40 - 7:00 p.m.
Below is a description of each shift along with details of what you would
be signing up for. Parents are welcome to volunteer along with their
children aged 16 and older.
*COMMAND CENTER* is located at Silver Lake Plaza and Collins St (in front
of Winger's Bar).
*WALKERS: 5:40-6:40 pm*
We need 3 pairs of “walkers” - 6 total. These volunteers need to be dressed
for the weather as they will walk around from 5:45 until the train comes.
Volunteers will check in at the Command Center at 5:40, receive supplies
and then walk around and collect monetary donations for the pantry,
returning to the Command Center to drop things off when the train arrives.
*VAN: 4:45-7:15 pm*
We also need 3 pairs of “van volunteers” (6 total) to collect both food and
monetary donations at vans which will be parked around the city. We will
NOT need van drivers this year - the vans will already be parked at their
location. These volunteers will check in at the Command Center at 4:45 and
receive their keys. They will receive necessary supplies and head to their
van where they will decorate it and stay with the van collecting donations
until the train arrives. After they enjoy the festivities and the train
departs they will un-decorate and secure their van and return supplies to
the Command Center. (Volunteers will not be responsible for delivering the
food or unloading it.) The time commitment would be from 4:45 to around
7:15 if everything’s on schedule. ( It usually is!)
Thank you so much for all your help in making this event successful!
