27,500 Tons

Residents in 26 cities, villages, and towns dutifully put out their recycling cart to participate in Waukesha County’s recycling program. The contents of their carts, which totals about 27,000 tons a year, are taken to a recycling facility where a vendor sorts the material. It is then sold as feedstock to make new products and the revenues used to maintain the recycling facility and reduce the cost paid by residents for collecting and hauling waste. Over 10% of material that is delivered to the facility is garbage – items that don’t belong in a recycling cart. Please help us by keeping trash – especially propane tanks and batteries - out of the recycling bin to keep workers safe. Multiple fires are extinguished every year. We invite you to take a video tour.
