LCUUC is participating in the national Vote Forward campaign again as
recommended by *UU The Vote <https://www.uuthevote.org/7-ways/>. *In 2020
LCUUC participated in the Vote Forward campaign, writing 2,700 letters to
potential voters in critical swing states such as Wisconsin, urging them to
vote. Nationally, Vote Forward participants wrote 17.5 million letters.* Its
likely Vote Forward played an important role in Wisconsin* where 291,000
letters were written to historically under-represented voters and the
election was decided by only 20,682 votes.
*LCUUC Vote Forward Campaign Details*
- Vote Forward "Social" campaigns target people that are traditionally
under-represented registered voters, have not voted for several elections,
and are located in critical swing states like Wisconsin. LCUUC can
participate, even given our charitable organization tax designation,
because this campaign is not directed at a political party.
There are 2 options to writer letters, either sign up on the Vote Forward
<https://votefwd.org/>site or join us at church:
1) Sign up on the Vote Forward website https://votefwd.org/, choose a
state "Social" campaign for "traditionally under-represented voters",
download letters in groups of 20, print them out, complete each letter by
adding a sentence on why it's important to vote, sign it, address an
envelope, seal the letter inside, stamp and wait until October 29 to mail
it. Each 20 letters take about 1 hour to complete. Note there are also
"political" campaigns that you can participate in as an individual but
LCUUC cannot endorse due to our charitable status.
2) Join us after Sunday services, the first is this Sunday August 21,
and we'll have letters and potential voter names and addresses. We'll give
you a quick tutorial on the process and you can join us in writing there
and/or take them home and write later.
*Please let me know how many letters you've written so I can track our
progress*. Also the LCUUC social action committee is raising money for
stamps- let me know how many stamps you need. Would be really nice to try
to beat that 2,700 letters written last election.
