Many of us were moved by the worship service this morning. For those of
you who are inspired to learn more and get involved in work to change our
state's criminal justice system, WISDOM is a leader in this area. They
have two major initiatives - ROC - Restoring Our Communities, and EXPO - Ex
Prisoners Organizing. They are currently working to influence the State
budget process to reallocate funds more fairly toward treatment and away
from crimeless revocation. If you're interested, go to their website,
and/or follow them on social media to learn how to get involved.

When we talk about incarceration, it can seem like something that's far
away - that doesn't directly impact us out here in our area, but of course,
it affects us all in so many ways. I imagine many of us know people
personally who have been in jail or prison. The statistics for our state
are appalling - both in terms of total numbers of people incarcerated, and
the percentage of people of color. This is something we, as UUs are called
to work to change. If we believe that Black Lives Matter, then we have to
change our systems of oppression, and at the top of the list is our
criminal justice system.

If you're looking to get involved in this work through our church, consider
coming to one of our Social Justice Committee meetings. We meet on the
third Tuesday of the month. Contact me for more info.

Peace friends,
Kerry
