Hi Kooks- I'm intrigued with the upcoming workshop put on by the UUA called
"New Day Rising" on Saturday, February 27th, addressing "white supremacist
culture" and have come to realize the importance of examining the cultural
norms that we grew up with, that are a part of how we show up in the world
and at LCUUC.
Of course we don't consider ourselves white supremacists, but given the
upbringing that many of us had, we have characteristics that are considered
a part of a white supremacist culture. For example, characteristics such as
individualism, perfectionism, objectivity, fear of open conflict, and a
sense of urgency, are not unfamiliar to us.
I think examining this culture is not only going to be interesting and
eye-opening on a personal basis, but by doing so, will allow us to identify
ways that this culture shows up at LCUUC and makes us less of a welcoming
congregation. We will learn about what other UU congregations are doing and
what we can do to dismantle the part of this culture that gets in the way
of ourselves and our congregation being a force for racial justice.
Join me, Rev Carin and others at LCUUC for this one day zoom event on
Saturday, February 27th from 11am- 8 pm.
See below for more info. Thanks for listening!
Lynne
