Black Lives Matter - Learn & Take Action for October 2020 #2
LEARN – Remember the 4th grade teacher in Burlington who taught about the Black Lives Matter protests that we wrote a supportive note to in the first September Black Lives Matter Learn and Take Action? THANK YOU to everyone who emailed Melissa Statz. Read the full story HERE of what happened and why your note made a difference.
TAKE ACTION – Sign up for some virtual training: Unconscious Bias: Can We See Our Own Blind Spots? Saturday, October 31 from 9am – Noon on Zoom. Send your name and email address to office at stlukeslutheran.org
This training will incorporate fun, interactive exercises and explore how our normal brains serve as effective pattern-making machines that unconsciously ‘prime’ us for stereotyping. We examine how the concept of race developed throughout US history and how human tendency toward bias help create and maintain today’s systemic racial inequities. We explore how bias affects daily life, and whether something this difficult to perceive can ever be changed.
Presented by SOPHIA (Stewards of Prophetic Hopeful Intentional Action) and
