[Lekooks] An Opportunity to Build a Park Instead of Condominiums

Hello All!

Our community (Oconomowoc) has been given the opportunity to raise the
funds to buy a beautiful piece of property that has shoreline on Fowler
Lake and overlooks Lac LaBelle.  If we can reach our goal, the property
will become a public park.  If we are unsuccessful in raising the money by
January 31, 2021 the owner/developer will build an 8 unit condominium
building on the property.  The lot is at 517 N. Lake Rd., on the isthmus
between the two lakes.  The adjacent lot, 525 N. Lake Rd., has been
purchased by a local family and donated to the City already.  (As an aside,
with this lot becoming a public park we will now be able to portage around
the dam and have access to both Fowler Lake and Lac LaBelle!)  The purchase
of 517 will expand the park, preserve shoreline and create a beautiful park
that overlooks both lakes.

We have a VERY short window of time to raise $1,350,000 to purchase the
property.  Our deadline is January 31, 2021.  We have had tremendous
support from the community and have already raised $375,000. It seems all
are in favor of a park over more condos!!

Normally, I hate asking for money, but I am very passionate about this
project and hopeful that we can meet our goal.  Fundraising during a
pandemic adds a whole new dimension to the process.  Please forgive my
boldness!?

You can help by donating and/or spreading the word about our initiative.
Any help will be very much appreciated.  If you are aware of any grants
that would be appropriate to apply for, please let me know!  If you are
interested in donating, there is a donation form on the website and checks
may be made out to City of Oconomowoc - 517 Park and mailed to 174 E.
Wisconsin Ave. Oconomowoc WI  53066. Donations are eligible for tax
exemption and will be returned if we do not reach our goal.
