| A judge ruled yesterday that the state needs to allow people to register to vote online through the end of this month.  So, please help get the word out that anyone not registered to vote needs to do so -- it can be done at www.myvote.wi.gov.   And, please encourage EVERYONE, starting with yourself, to request an absentee ballot, also at www.myvote.wi.gov.  You can get the ballot mailed to wherever you are, no matter if you are currently staying at the place where you are registered.  It is important for us to be sure that every eligible person votes in this election. On a related note:  The WISDOM officers, after discussion with many of our leaders, have agreed that WISDOM will  sign on to the call for the April 7 election day to be postponed.  If you are in a position to help to advocate for that, please do so.  But, even as we advocate for the postponement, we need to keep working to get people to vote early, or to vote by absentee ballot, especially, in case we are unable to get the election postponed. Finally, thanks to the many, many WISDOM members who have been calling and e-mailing the Governor and other officials to call for emergency measures to be taken to release many people from our jails and prisons, especially those most at risk of serious consequences from COVID-19.  Again, if you have not done so, please download  WISDOM's Open Letter to Governor Evers.

Today, we are asking that you contact your State Senator and State Assembly Representative.  Tell them about your concern regarding a COVID-19 outbreak in Wisconsin's prisons.  Tell them you expect them to join us in calling on the Governor to take serious, immediate action.  Remind them that the Governor currently has the power to do everything the letter calls on him to do. These are uncertain times, in so many ways.  It is at times like these that it is especially important for people concerned with justice and equity to step up.  As we have seen, the wealthy and powerful will take care of themselves.  We need to stand up for our own communities and for those who need someone to speak up for them. |
