[Lekooks] Is Zoom stressing you out??

I received some tips at work for dealing with the additional stress we may have due to Zoom overload if you are working remotely and thought I would share:

>
> Zoom has proven to be a necessary, but added stressor in our lives during this 100% remote working environment. It provides connection, but virtual interactions are very taxing on the brain, as our brain constantly tries to determine if the people we see are real and pick up on non-verbal cues that might not be visible virtually. How can we make this better?

> Tip 1: Don’t look at yourself.
> · To Do: Hover over your image, click on the three dots, select “Hide Self View.” You can turn back on by clicking “Show Self View” at the top by Gallery/Speaker View.
> · Why? Research has shown that viewing yourself adds a large amount of stress. We don’t normally see ourselves in conversation, and our eyes are drawn to movement, so when we talk, we are drawn to ourselves. This is unnerving, uncomfortable and frankly distracts us from the conversation. You may be shocked at the difference it makes to hide yourself (I found it to be sweet relief!). You can be present and less self-conscious. It is closer to real life interactions.
>
> Tip 2: Focus on the speaker
> · To Do: Use Speaker View instead of Gallery View when not being “social.” Click on Speaker View in top right corner.
> · Why? The Gallery view forces multi-tasking and challenges your brain to focus and decode so many people at once that no one comes through meaningfully, and leaves you exhausted.
>
> Tip 3: Having a rough day? It is ok to turn off your camera in internal meetings.
> · To Do: turn off the video
> · Why? Save your strength for the important things that day. Yes, we like to interact and frankly we miss seeing each other. But if you need a break, it is ok to take one.
>
> Tip 4: Use the old-fashioned phone
> · To Do: Pick up and dial.
> · Why? One on one via phone is a direct and more personal connection. Even more so than just using voice on Zoom, as the audio doesn’t work the same. Plus, it removes any aspect of the visual processing and lets you concentrate more.

Be well,
