We wish to thank the volunteers from LCUUC who helped set up, serve, and clean up after the Bread of Life community meal Thursday evening. We served 98 guests, plus Scouts who brought desserts and waited on the tables, plus the band, St. Charles volunteers, and ourselves with chicken breast sandwiches, coleslaw, chips, and pickles. It was a nice gathering and everyone seemed to be enjoying the food, music, and company.
LCUUC has participated inthe Lake Country Bread of Life Community Meal program for a number ofyears. What began years ago as a meal for the needy in our area, hasturned into a host program that includes seniors and others in need of a goodmeal and friendship. The meals are provided by area churches at the St.Charles Catholic Church in Hartland. Meals are prepared by area churches and organizations and served at St.Charles Parish and School, 313 Circle Drive, Hartland. This program is one of the ways our churchparticipates in our area’s Interfaith community. LCUUC provided the main dish and volunteers to prepare, serve, and clean up afterwards, and the dessert was provided by the Hartland Girl Scouts. This is a once a year commitment for us.
Now for the "Ask":
LCUUC became involved with the Bread of Life program a number of years ago, when Bill Lizdas lived in the area. Bill organized our participation in it for a number of years, but had to relinquish it when he moved to Madison 3 years ago. Esther and I volunteered to take on the organizing aspect at that time. But now we are at the point that we no longer wish to be in charge of leading our participation, which includes meal planning and preparation and recruiting volunteers to help out with it. So if you are interested in taking on the leadership of LCUUC's participation in this program, please let us know, by the end of October if possible.
Thank you,
Gerry & Esther Flakas
