Thanks, Kim, for bringing this to our attention.
We attended Dr. DeKlotz's excellent presentation this evening, and whole-heartedly support the referendum.
It appears that the root cause of the problem, which is rendering the KMSD unsustainable, is that the school board understated the district's revenue needs back in the early 1990's at the time Tommy Thompson and his legislature implemented revenue caps, and KMSD has been paying for this ever since. So the problem isn't that the District is "the third poorest in the County", but that the 1993 KMSD school board "shot itself in the foot" with the third lowest revenue per pupil to prove to the voters how conservative they were. The only remedy for the District to get the needed revenue is to pass the referendum, so if you live in the KMSD and believe in public education, please vote for it on April 2.
