ABOUT OAK CREEK SIKH TEMPLE SHOOTING MAKES ITS MILWAUKEE DEBUT After a critically acclaimed run in Los Angeles, RAG HEAD makes its Milwaukee debut at the Broadway Theatre Center on August 3rd & 4th to benefit the Interfaith Conference of Greater Milwaukee and to honor the seven-year remembrance of the victims and families affected by Oak Creek Sikh Temple shooting. The show explores Sikhs and xenophobia in a post 9/11 America. Inspired by actual events, Sundeep Morrison’s one woman show, RAG HEAD, addresses hate, hope and American identity.Performances are at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3,
and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4.On August 5, 2012, a white supremacist entered a Sikh temple in Oak Creek and murdered six people. Sundeep Morrison’s portrays seven inextricably linked characters whose lives are forever changed by one hateful act.Since 9/11, there has been an alarming increase in hate crimes committed against Sikhs, Muslims and other immigrant communities. With their turbans and long beards, Sikhs have become targets in the United States. According to the Sikh Coalition, there are roughly 500,000 Sikhs in the U.S., many of whom have been subject to xenophobic harassment or violence.Sikh awareness workshop with Q&A after each performance

A graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy NY, her work focuses on social justice, cultural friction, inter-ethnic family dynamics and feminism. As a child of Sikh immigrant parents who are deeply connected to the Wisconsin Sikh community and were affected by the Oak Creek tragedy, Morrison seeks to shed light on the often misunderstood and misrepresented Sikh community. DEANNA SINGH (Executive Producer) A native of Milwaukee, Deanna is a highly-respected thought leader. She is also the recipient of the United Way’s Philanthropic Five Award, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Leadership Development Hero and was a featured as a TEDx speaker. He received a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Sociology from Marquette University and a master’s in Clinical/Community Psychology from Alverno College. He has served the community as a police officer, educator for at-risk high school students, community consultant, and trauma therapist. He is one of the co-founders of Serve2Unite, a nonprofit organization founded after the 2012 white supremacist attack on the Oak Creek Sikh Temple to counter extremism.
