It takes a village. Some of you have offered your help and suggestions when he is coming to church. Those will be incorporated into helping him and others to have a good experience at LCUUC.
Robin has his walker, and gets up and down, and is able to use the walker with a little guidance. He does not see as well as he used to. So a hand on his back to guide him helps him to remember what direction to proceed. when he gets up and down, it helps if he does not have anything in his hands. (songbook, glasses, water, etc.)
Thank you to the Larson/Lewis family for also helping to get Robin to choir practice and church. We have been able to cover getting him to church so far. If there is anyone else that would like to help serve as a back-up, that would be helpful. It is best to have someone he knows or is familiar with. You could contact Helen or Eric Larson if you have questions about helping us with this.

During social time after the service, I have also witnessed others who have helped with Robin. Robin is very receptive to others helping him. If we sit him down in a sturdy chair in the social hall is best. then we can bring the beverage/snacks to him. He can have any beverages he wants, however, I would suggest water, or some apple juice. They are cool drinks and not as acidic. A mug seems to work best, as it gives Robin something big with a handle to hold onto. Robin has no food restrictions that I am aware of. It is best to let him know what is offered that Sunday, and bring him some at the table.

Robin does enjoy conversation and seeing others and talking and meeting people at church. Yesterday, when I brought him to church, he was so happy about the day, and excited about coming to church. The sun was out and he was grateful to go somewhere.
If some of you do choose to go visit Robin, that is very helpful to him. He is in a memory care unit in Waukesha still. It is a nice place, with activities for residents. (I have joined in a few of the activities when I have been there. Singing, cards, services, and other things are available. You do need to sign in at the front desk. If you do visit Robin in his room, you can sign in also in his room, in a notebook posted on his wall. That helps family know who has been there also.

Hopefully, when the weather gets better to go outside for the residents, there is a courtyard for them. and a park nearby. Great place for a picnic. Some have needed to stay away from others due to illness and preventing the spread of illness, but hopefully we are done with that soon!

thanks for reading, and the consideration of your time in helping.
any questions or concerns, please call Helen Bera 262-968-2336 (home) or leave a message.
