[Lekooks] Just say no to cows?

Hi y’all,

I’m going to vent/whine/complain. If you’ve reached your daily limit feel free to delete now without reading further.

I’m no vegetarian. Give me a pork chop or chicken fingers made from humanely raised animals and I’ll be all over them. But a year and a half ago I gave up eating beef because of the quantity of methane produced by the crazy number of cows our nation goes through and that methane’s contribution to climate change.

I really don’t want to give up dairy, I love Wisconsin’s cheeses, but the facility the approval of this permit allows is not good for the environment or nice to the dairy cows that will live there, all 5,800 of them on the 128 acres.

Imho, feedlots should be outlawed. If there isn’t the space and quality of grasses to allow the animals (cows, pigs, chickens, whatever) to range feed, then there aren’t the resources to raise them and we should just do without. The least we can do for the critters that sustain us is give them a decent life while they’re here.

And the threat the our waters, and the flora and fauna that it sustains, is very real too.

I wish Wisconsin still had a functional DNR and that profits weren’t so many people’s prime objective.

Take care,
Liz
