Hi Doug,
Do you know this band? Sleepy Man Banjo Boys? I would never seek out banjo
or bluegrass (no offense) but the universe brought them to me today and I'm
glad it did. You see I had YouTube casting to my TV and had lined up some
old Saturday Night Live skits to listen to and half watch while I worked on
my computer. My YouTube was set to autoplay so after it ran through my
picks it kept going. It went from SNL and Steve Martin's King Tut (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgTPH5y1-ZI), to Steve Martin banjo videos
to these guys.
For a couple hours now I've been listening to their brand of bluegrass and
watching this little, and not so little, kid *wail *on the banjo. I've
probably listened to as much bluegrass today as I have the whole rest of my
life put together.
Lots of other stuff going on here but it's the youngest I saw him. The boys
playing fiddle and guitar are his brothers.
Sleepy Man Banjo Boys With JD Crowe and The New South!

Jonny meets his banjo hero JD Crowe! You'll never see or hear a more
talented, classy, and gracious group of musicians as JD Crowe and The New
South. We were thrilled to be called up to play a few songs with them at
the 2011 Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival.

This is just pure WTF am I seeing / hearing. I love what he does by
adjusting those tuner thingys while he plays. (Can you tell I don't play.)
And his brothers are no slackers.

Bluegrass virtuosity from ... New Jersey?
Published on Jul 5, 2013
All under the age of 16, brothers Jonny, Robbie and Tommy Mizzone are from
New Jersey, a US state that's better known for the rock of Bruce
Springsteen than the bluegrass of Earl Scruggs. Nonetheless, the siblings
began performing bluegrass covers, as well as their own compositions, at a
young age. Here, they play three dazzling songs in three different keys,
passing the lead back and forth from fiddle to banjo to guitar."

There first original album included a song for their brother who has
epilepsy.

No longer boys they don't play their instruments in this video but I like
what they do show - humanity.

I could keep adding more good videos/songs, they keep coming. Okay one
more. This is part interview. The older brothers talk about how the
youngest didn't have to practice and they had to practice harder to keep
up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OM2Luzbd4uI
Did you know of them? Are they all, but especially the banjo player, as
unusually talented as I think they are or is my lack of musical knowledge
showing?
