Janis and Phil,
Here is an addition to the discussion of cohousing.
Last Saturday Marie-Claude, I, and our son’s family visited Serenbe, a new urban village just west of Atlanta. Seeing this planned community immediately brought to mind cohousing. Serenbe housing and activities stress community. The community has a strong environmental commitment, including geothermal heating and CSA farms. I took a few photos and brought back some Serenbe literature which I can share.

I learned that there is a similar community called Prairie Crossing at Grayslake, Illinois, just south of the Wisconsin line. Who would have thunk!

It was great to hear from a dozen Lekooks interested in Cohousing! I know many people have not heard of cohousing, so here is a website for the national organization that will help answer the question:
"What is cohousing?”

We are lucky to have a few people who have already looked into this topic, and can help us explore further. Phil Smith has agreed to share what he has learned at a meeting after church. Hope all of you who are interested can join us. If you can’t make it but would like to be on our list for future meetings, please email me.

Please join us and invite anyone you wish for a discussion and mini potluck too.
If everyone wants to bring something to add to a salad, I will bring some greens.
It is also lucky that there is a national Cohousing Day coming up on Sat, April 29 with open houses across the country at many cohousing communities. It would be great to get a group together to go to some open houses in Madison. Please let me know if you are interested in that and we can talk further at our meeting. Maybe we can carpool, tour, and picnic or go out to dinner in Madison?
One more important event to get on your radar:
The national conference for cohoursing is in Nashville the weekend of May 19-20, and it would be very helpful, (and a blast!) to go with any of you that can come. You can find information and registration on the national website.
Please let me know if you are interested!
Thanks, Janis
