The Green Sanctuary Committee has been working on Environmental/Social
justice project with SOPHIE of Waukesha County. Our project work resulted
in our receiving the John Muir Chapter of the Sierra Club's 2016 New
Activist award. We have been advised that our efforts are also being
recognized on a national level in Washington DC on Friday evening, Sept. 15,
at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center
<http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/wasmc-washington-marriott-at-metro-center/>.
Our
coalition will receive the Sierra Club's 2017 Special Achievement Award.
Barb Pfarr of Waukesha County SOPHIA our coalition partner will be
accepting the award.
The state Transportation Budget is still in flux.
We are asking that if you agree, please remind (again) your Wisconsin
legislators:
Ø1. Restore previous cuts and increase transit funding by $34.3 million.
This amount was recommended by the Governor’s commission to be added
each year over a 10 year period, (Report of the WI Transportation Finance
and Policy Commission, 2013)
Ø2. Adjust specialized transportation funding levels to reflect the
increasing needs of those with disabilities and the growing population of
older adults unable to drive.
Ø3. Increase the percentage of state reimbursement to provide needed
investment to restore local roads to good condition.
