Dear Kooks,

The UUA proclaimed an Action of Immediate Witness in 2015 to Support the
Black Lives Matter Movement. It "*urges member congregations to take
initiative in collaboration with local and national organizations fighting
for racial justice against the harsh racist practices to which many black
people are exposed*." It also says, "*No matter who you are, black lives
matter, and a system of fair, transformative and restorative justice that
is accountable to communities is something to which each of us has a
right."*

As UUs, we have a responsibility to understand the Black Lives Matter
movement and what we can do to change systemic racism in our communities.

LCUUC's Social Justice Committee invites all of you to attend a forum at
LCUUC on Sunday, 1/29 from noon - 2 - *Black Lives Matter - What it IS,
what it is NOT and Why Should we Care?*

This workshop, led by Ann Heidkamp, Justice Building Innovator from UU
Church West will enhance our understanding of the Black Lives Matter
movement. In addition to the main questions above, we will explore:

· In what ways do we commit subtle actions of racism?

· How do we use language and actions that can be unintentionally
offensive to people of color?

· What does it mean to be anti-racist vs. just non-racist?

· Where are we now as a country in terms of racism?

· What can we do now?

*Pease sign-up for this January 29th forum by January 20*, by emailing
Brittani in the church office (admin at lcuuc.org) or signing up on the sheet
in the social hall. A soup lunch will be provided after the worship
service by the Social Justice Committee.

*If you can't attend this program at LCUUC on 1/29, there is another good
program at First Unitarian in Milwaukee at 12:30 on 1/22: *Rev. Joe
Ellwanger will be speaking on "The Struggle Against Racism in our City" and
how mostly white churches can relate to today's civil rights struggles and
Black Lives Matter.
