THANKS, Mark! Great suggestions! We were @ the movie, also. Had to carpool with folks from West Bend, so couldn't link with you. Provocative film. Yes, let's follow up in various ways.

Peace,

Sara and Bud

Subject: Mass Incarceration - You Can Make a Difference

All,

I attended this movie below on Saturday. Powerful film that sadly depicts Wisconsin's prison, parole and sentencing system that is destroying communities for generations like this part of Milwaukee.

Private screenings can be arranged and it might be a powerful film for our "Movies that Matter" series either related to inequality or to the "Black Lives Matter" movement.

Let me know if this is something we want to pursue and I can try and arrange a private screening at our church. See http://www.milwaukee53206.com/ for more info.

Milwaukee 53206: A Community Serves Time - A New Documentary<http://www.milwaukee53206.com/>
www.milwaukee53206.com
MILWAUKEE 53206 is a one-hour documentary that chronicles the lives of those affected by incarceration in America's most incarcerated zip code.

But before we see this, you can help right now by reading about one case covered in the movie: Baron Walker. You can then write a letter to the Wisconsin Parole Board to request a Parole Grant to help get him out of a prison or donate money for a lawyer.

Baron is a model prisoner who has served over 20 years and has long met all of the requirements for parole. He has a stable support system of his family and employment when he gets out.

He is one of the approximately 3000 prisoners that have been caught with long sentences that were "grandfathered in" when Wisconsin passed the Truth-in-Sentencing law in 1998. Truth in sentencing forces inmates to serve their full sentences yet was not the law when Baron' s long sentence was delivered.

The website below gives you more background and contains sample letters that can be written. Support letters can aid Parole!

The control of information is something the elite always does, particularly in a despotic form of government. Information, knowledge, is power.

Thanks for listening.

Sincerely,

Mark

Subject: [Lekooks] Milwaukee Film Festival - Special film TO SEE!

9/15/16

Hi Lekooks -

Consider seeing this provocative and oh-so-relevant film!

The 2016 Milwaukee Film Festival is approaching, 9/22-10/6/16. See MKEFILM.ORG for details. Consider seeing the single showing of the film "Milwaukee 53206: A Community Serves Time" at noon, October 1 at the Oriental Theater. Black Lives Matter to Wisconsin Unitarian Universalists (our UU coalition) is one of the Community Partners for the film. "53206 is the Milwaukee ZIP code where 62% of the adult male residents have spent time behind bars. A character-driven, immersive ensemble helps tell the stories behind the statistic, showing the effects mass incarceration has on the hearts and minds of those left behind. The film will be followed by an onstage, moderated panel discussion, one that should prove especially resonant to local audiences." Tickets sometimes sell out quickly so purchase soon.
