I use a small fountain and an aromatherapy diffuser in my house and it's true that even when you don't see splashing the floor or table surface around them is inevitably damp from the mist. I do love the idea of us having moving water and it's sound in our services though. Perhaps a made-for-indoor fountain with it's own stand or on a small table would be better.

It could be placed on a throw rug that extends out a bit to catch the mist. The rug could be re-purposed after a few years if the minerals affect it's appearance. We could have a couple rugs for different looks.

Unlike a large water feature where you constantly maintain some level of chlorine or other bio-cide in the water to reduce the build up of slime and extend the life of the pump, a smaller fountain can run just water then be emptied and cleaned as needed, I find bi-weekly is enough. I use the cheapest vinegar I can buy and it works to remove scale and kill slime.

If we don't like it, it's not permanent and won't be nearly the investment. And it could be moved as needed.

  this stands on the floor

this gets mounted to a wall

 this sits on a table

There are lots of design options for not-permanent fountains.

I think it would be a hard thing to find a disinfectant that did not give off an odor. It would thus be a challenge for those sensitive to odors in a closed environment. In addition, having worked with indoor water features and fountains, there is very often subtle splash. That might be a problem on the new floor, and at the very least would cause a mineral residue where the droplets land.

Maybe some kind of disinfectant could mitigate this risk.

Water walls are lovely, but there have been instances of pathogenic bacteria growing in them and causing illness (including one case in a hospital, of all places).

Hello All

The Form and Function Committee is looking in to the possible construction of a rock water wall behind the altar area. It is currently just a concept and we will be solicting input from the membership and approval from the board before embarking on such an endeavor. One of the key issues that we need to research is the amount of maintenance that would be involved. To that end we would like to visit other nearby facilities with water walls. So, please respond if you know of any nearby water walls- preferrably constructed of rock- local limestone is the leading candidate. And hey, if you have any strong opinions on this idea feel free to let us know. :)
