Last Monday this story about an accident the weekend before came out (link
below).

A man in a Model X was making a left turn when he was t-boned in the
driver's door by someone going 65 mph. The car had been stolen and they
were trying to evade police. The victim didn't quite walk away - after
getting himself out of the car he briefly lost consciousnesses and he had a
torn ligament in his thumb (probably had quite a hold of the steering wheel
after he realized he was going to get hit) - but he didn't have any broken
bones or even any cuts. If someone t-boned my car door doing 65, I would be
dead.

Tesla's do have more side support than other cars,

but
Tesla representatives
say it's the battery pack that makes the biggest difference. The strong
case helps the car maintain its rectangular shape.

The front axle broke from the impact but the driver's door barely intruded
at all. All those air bags must
have
help
ed him
too.

Crazy thing ... t

h
is wasn't his car, it's not what he usually drove. He
had
rented the Model X
for the weekend and because he did, he m
ade it to his wedding t
he day after the accident.

"What’s remarkable about this story is the fact that, despite being struck
at high speed by a heavy and fast-moving SUV, and above the axis of
rotation, the Model X didn’t roll. Braman

[the owner and driver]

who practices orthopedic surgery and has been witness to some of the more
extreme cases of spinal injury realizes the significance in this. Had the
Model X rolled or even spun, there could have been serious neck and spinal
injuries involved.

Braman’s father who was sitting inches from the point of impact was
protected by the Model X’s large front crumple zone and airbags throughout,
including never-before-seen leg airbags that deployed. “The other car was
forced to glance off of us and came to a stop. The crumple zones worked,
and my father who was sitting several inches from the point of impact was
seen and discharged from the hospital. He would have been much more
seriously injured if there were less safety protections. The leg airbags
(and the others as well) deployed protecting him even further. The glass
was not injured except by the airbag and never came out of any of the
windows.”, tells us."

These are the first of many future
'survivors-of-accidents-that-used-to-be-fatal.'
We'll all benefit as other car manufacturers work to match Tesla's results.

On a lighter note, this article has
a few M
odel 3
s
hots in each
of the
color
s
spied so far
(the colors that will be available haven't been confirmed)
: black, silver, red, blue, matte black and white.
I still like the blue the best. If I could afford all the after market
stuff to make the matte black look like it does here though I'd consider
it.

Photos were taken around the Tesla plant in Fremont, CA. In this

btw - I got fired from my Elon Musk social feeds and newsletter curating
part-time, second job. Too big of a learning curve for all the software -
I'm not a programmer and could never troubleshoot problems by myself. It's
just as well, I can barely keep up with my responsibilities working one
job. The last three weeks were a whirlwind, it's nice to have spare time
back. And there were no hard feelings. I started my email asking for the
job with, "I have never curated a thing in my life but ..." We both knew we
were taking a chance.
