Tomorrow after the worship service, we will present the third class in our 5-session series on Economic Inequality - "*Advocating for a Fair Minimum Wage*", presented by Bud and Sara Hudson. All are invited to attend. The class is 11:30 - 1:00. Bring a bite to eat. Here's an overview:* The right to a living wage is a central pillar of the UU Service Committee's economic justice work. It has been nearly 6 years since the minimum wage has been raised. Millions of full-time employees make $7.25/hr, or $15,080/yr, well below the poverty line for a family of 3. This workshop focuses on income inequality and what we can do about it. It is based on the UUSC ?Choosing Compassionate Consumption? course.* Suggested donation to LCUUC $5. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... There are likely some other contests on your ballot. *To see your local ballot*, go to https://myvote.wi.gov/ . Click on "Regular Voter", enter your name and address, click on your name, and then click on "Whats on my ballot" to see what is on the ballot for your area. A few quick on-line searches should give you info about the candidates and help you be an informed voter. I just received training to be an Election Observer with the League of Women Voters, and learned a few things about the new voting process that I thought I'd share. To *VOTE*, you must show Photo ID, but the address does not have to be current. Poll workers are *not *allowed to check your address or signature - they can ONLY check your name and photo. If a poll worker checks addresses or signatures, they should be reported to the Chief Inspector of the polling place. *Any questions or problems that you see or experience at the polls can be reported to the Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE. *There may be some legal challenges to the new Voter ID law, and all irregularities should be reported. Student IDs need to be accompanied by Proof of Enrollment - again, this *can *be shown on their smartphone. There should be a clearly marked place to register to vote at the polling place. To *REGISTER *to vote you need 2 things - you DO NOT need a photo ID to register: 1 - Your WI Driver License. If you don't have it with you, but you have one, you can call the DMV from the polling place and they can provide the DL# to you. If you don't have a current Driver's License, you need to provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security number. 2 - Proof of Residency. Can be shown on a smartphone - does not have to be a paper copy. Can be many different forms - food stamps, BadgerCare notices, SSI notices... *Anyone who does not have proper ID should be given a provisional ballot and has until Friday to go back with proper ID and have their vote processed.* If there is one thing we can do to affect change in our country it is TO VOTE! Please share widely. In solidarity, Kerry -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... In keeping with our April 24 Earth Day service, please join our spring LCUUC Adopt A Highway cleanup after the service. LCUUC has been performing this community service, which beautifies our roads and gets our church's name before the public, plus is good exercise and camaraderie, for over a decade. Our stretch of road is Highway E, from the intersection with K (northwest corner of LCUUC property) north to highway EF. Takes about 1-1/2 hours total, and is a nice sociable walk in addition to doing something to help our environment in celebration of Earth Day. Per Waukesha County rules, children participating must be at least 11 years old or in 6th grade. Wear good walking shoes and gloves. We supply the bags, orange vests, and refreshments. Meet in the front foyer to get your orange vest and bag. Contact Ray Grosch or Gerry Flakas for more information -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Zeidler Memorial Lecture is this coming Sunday afternoon, April 10, at 3 p.m. in the downtown Public Library's Centennial Hall. The Interfaith Conference is involved in this, and I am chairman of this free event's planning committee because the late Milwaukee mayor was one of the key founders of the Interfaith Conference in 1970. One of our founders said in 2010 for our 40th anniversary that the Interfaith Conference might not have succeeded without Frank Zeidler's support, guidance and character. The Zeidler Memorial Lecture Committee is comprised of organizations that he helped found and/or strongly supported. They range from Milwaukee Public Television and the Interfaith Conference to the International Institute of Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Public Library. Details of the 2016 event are below. There is a balanced panel of presenters, with perspectives from different points on the political spectrum. Dr. Tula Connell, labor historian and author of the newly published book, Conservative Counterrevolution: Challenging Liberalism in 1950s Milwaukee, will speak along with two other panelists: State Rep. Fred Kessler (D), a colleague and admirer of Zeidler; and Mike Nichols, president of the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute, a free-market think tank. The moderator will be veteran broadcast journalist Joanne Williams, who hosts MPTV's "Black Nouveau" program and is a past president of the Milwaukee Press Club and a member of the club's Hall of Fame. If you did not, please contact me and I will update your information. The program is going very well and we have helped many families move into and sustain independent living arrangements. I want to be sure to start things off by extending a huge thank you to ALL of our volunteers. Without the support of so many volunteers this program would not be possible! Please continue to share the word about the program, recruit new volunteers and promote donating to Family Promise of Western Waukesha County as well!! Our weekly update indicated that we currently have three families in the program, three moms with three daughters ages 12 months, 15 months and 13 years. This information may change by our host week. We do have a problem that continues to plague the program and that is transportation. The Executive Director has informed us that MANY prospective families are turned away due to a lack of transportation, that being either lack of a personal vehicle or the lack of mass transit opportunities. Many possible solutions are being discussed, and if anyone receiving this has any thoughts or would like more information, please contact David Tenncyk at the Day Center 262-968-2321 or by email at david at fpwesternwaukeshacounty.org LCUUCers - Help Please!!! We are looking for someone to co-chair the Volunteer Coordinator position. I would like to take a moment to thank Robert Ehler and Sheila Larkin for their work in this role since the beginning of the program. It has been greatly appreciated!! With Sheila's move and Robert's busy schedule keeping him from continuing in the role, Bill Lizdas and I are looking for someone to help us. We promise...we are fun to work with and it's not too much work....we are a well-oiled machine!! Again, thanks to All, gina magnus -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The app provides detailed information on what and how to recycle or safely dispose of items, and where to take them, along with navigation to the selected location. "This app makes it easy for our residents to recycle right. The more residents recycle right, the more economical and environmentally sustainable the recycling program is," noted Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow. Yours in Faith,Phillip Lund Congregational Life Consultant plund at uua.org 612-875-0959 The MidAmerica Region is building a new era in Unitarian Universalism, where UUs visibly live our faith, create connections, grow our membership, and welcome all persons who share our UU values. Regional Assembly 2016 is almost here! There's still time to register for this year's MidAmerica Regional Assembly, April 29 through May 1, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Join our keynote presenters as they help us explore the Who in the New Era of Unitarian Universalism. Rev. Elizabeth Nguyen, Rev. Jeremy Nickel, and Kenny Wiley will present highlights of their own work as they look toward the future of Unitarian Universalism. And, as always at Regional Assembly, we will have worship services to inspire us and workshops to stimulate our thinking, along with plenty of opportunities to have fun with new and old UU friends. For more information and to register for Regional Assembly, visit midamericauua.org/events. We hope to see you there! NOTE: The InterContinental Hotel in St. Paul has informed us that they are almost sold out of overnight rooms during our Regional Assembly. If you are unable to book a room there, we are terribly sorry for the inconvenience. Upon checking www.hotels.com, there are many other hotels with rooms in all price ranges within a few miles of our hotel. Celebrate Nancy Heege's Service to the UUA We have a unique opportunity to recognize Nancy Heege at the conclusion of her 22 years of exemplary service to the Prairie Star District-UUA and the MidAmerica-UUA! The Nancy Heege Scholarship for Families has been established in her honor at Camp Unistar by district and regional leaders who worked with Nancy. In keeping with Nancy's goals and ideals, it will enable families to attend that might otherwise be denied the Unistar experience. You may easily contribute to the scholarship fund online. The secure link is: https://www.givemn.org/project/nancy-heege-family-scholarship-fund56e77dd3c9f68 You are also invited to a reception in Nancy's honor, prior to the start of our MidAmerica Regional Assembly:Friday, April 29, from 4:00 to 5:30InterContinental St Paul Riverfront Hotel 11 East Kellogg Blvd, St Paul MN We will also accept donations to the scholarship fund at that time, and at the Camp UniStar table in the Exhibit Area. We look forward to your generous participation and to seeing you in St. Paul! Friends of the MidAmerica Region Our Friends of the Region program was a continuation of the former Prairie Star District Friends program, designed to raise money from individuals for the District, and now for the MidAmerica Region. Nancy Heege started this program in Prairie Star many years ago after a number of people who were grateful for the help and support from the District asked her if they could make a donation. For any of you who are Friends of the Region, we hope you will also join us at the reception for Nancy Heege. We are in the process of evaluating the Friends of the Region program and looking for new ways to invigorate it. Your ideas are welcome - please contact Dori Thexton, dthexton at uua.org. We will continue to gratefully accept any donations to the Friends of MidAmerica Region. If you are a Friend, please be sure to pick up your ribbon for your nametag at Regional Assembly. If you can't join us at RA, contact Dori to have a ribbon sent to you - you can attach it to your nametag at your congregation! Deepening Relationships By Nancy Combs-Morgan, Congregational Life Consultant When I imagine the future of Unitarian Universalism, especially here in MidAmerica, I envision significant and lasting relationships - relationships among our wonderful congregational leaders and with our MidAmerica staff. The deepening of our relationships came up as guiding vision for our MidAmerica Board and staff, as evidenced in the efforts of the Learning Covenant Network task force of the MA Board, on which I serve representing the MA staff. (Hopefully, you will take a moment to read the piece in this newsletter from Rev. Bill Sasso about the work of the LNC). For my vision of our relational future, I have some specific hopes: that our religious professionals thirst for time together to share new ideas and discoveries about growing our faith; that when our congregational lay leaders are facing challenges, they first think, "I wonder what our sister congregational leaders have discovered about this very same issue," then they reach out and find a way to communicate with those other UU leaders. Woven into all of these, is the hope that our MidAmerica staff team are seen as co-collaborators who are charged to look up and out at the national trends in our Association and throughout other denominations. It is the circling back that counts - circling back to relationship. With the deepening of relationships in mind, here are some amazing opportunities to exchange ideas; our MA Regional Assembly, which in actuality is your opportunity to meet and be inspired by with other UU leaders. I am heartened to hear from folks that youth are thirsting for opportunities at the RA to connect with one another, and with that request in mind we are adding to the RA schedule a Youth Orientation session on Friday evening, right after the opening ceremony. Also, there will be a Youth RA Debrief session on Saturday evening after the dinner and entertainment. I look forward to taking part in both of those sessions (the location and specific time will be posted in the RA schedule). For MA leaders of all ages fired up about social change, I am thrilled to be working with the Minnesota UU Social Justice Alliance, in offering an add-on "Prophetic Partners" training for youth and adults, taking part at Unity Unitarian in St. Paul on Friday, April 29, in the afternoon (www.midamericauua.org/events). I will be leading a track for religious educators as part of the Prophetic Partners workshop. For religious educators who want to deepen their relationships, the cluster of Minneapolis/St. Paul religious educators have extended a gracious invite to take part in a pre-RA dinner on Friday evening (for more information contact Amy Peterson Derrick, wbuucre at gmail.com). Let's weave a fabric of relationship which will enhance our capacity to grow, not just for growth sake, but to help grow a consciousness of humane care throughout our region. Looking forward to seeing you at the RA! Spring Chalice Lighters Call By Dori Davenport-Thexton, Congregational Life Consultant Our spring Chalice Lighter call will be sent out the first week of April. We're pleased to announce that the committee selected two applications for funding: The UU Church of Greater Lansing, Michigan is moving to a new building this spring and they have some work to do to make their meeting spaces fully accessible. The congregation is committed to not only ramps and wheelchair access but also to full audio accessibility in their main meeting rooms. They asked for Chalice Lighter funds to install a hearing-loop system, so your donations will help to fund this project. The First Unitarian Church of Omaha, Nebraska is interested in starting a diverse new UU presence in the city, in collaboration with Second Unitarian in Omaha. The Chalice Lighter committee decided to give $1,000 to fund demographic studies and exploratory meetings with local UUs and other organizers about how and where to start this new group. Any funds received in excess of the amounts for these two congregations will be put in the New/Emerging Congregation reserve fund for use in the future. We'd also like to remind you that each of our Chalice Lighter Calls (Fall, Winter, Spring) has an end date published in the letter and on the website. Occasionally, donations are received more than 10 days after the call has ended and those funds then go into the New/Emerging Congregation fund. We do have money available for small grants to any affiliated congregation that is less than 10 years old, or to an emerging congregation working towards affiliation with the UUA. So, if you are part of or know of such a new group, contact us to learn more about applying for those funds: Dori Davenport Thexton at dthexton at uua.org or Phil Lund at plund at uua.org.Learning Network Covenant Update By Bill Sasso, Learning Network Covenant Task Force The Learning Network Covenant Task Force invites you to join us at Regional Assembly to engage questions like these: What types of learning partnerships would your congregation seek with your sister congregations? How might learning partnerships strengthen stewardship, worship, social justice, leadership development, or faith development? What resources does your congregation need to deepen lateral relationships with other congregations? What types of learning partnerships can best serve our congregations? Would your congregation benefit from being in a network of congregations who intentionally seek to deepen their learning partnerships? How would a covenantal understanding with other congregations deepen the connection to the greater learning and connection? What three words describe what you hope to see in the future for the New Era in Unitarian Universalism? In addition to active exploration of questions like these, we look forward to learning from you and sharing our sense of the importance and the possibility that the Learning Network Covenant embodies! Our workshop, "Walking Together into MidAmerica's New Era of Unitarian Universalism," will take place from 1:30 to 2:45 pm on Saturday. The following dates have been selected for the Rummage and Plant Sale: Friday May 20? 8am-6pmSaturday May 21? 8am -2pm Also -please note that the week leading up to those sales dates will be working days for the volunteers to get the sale set-up and ready for business on Friday & Saturday. The Rummage will be using classrooms 1, 3, and 4 , along with the social hall and kitchen. Please plan accordingly regarding meetings that week and if you have a ongoing meeting in one of those locations, you may have to relocate temporarily for that week only. DONATIONS FOR THE RUMMAGE WILL BEGIN TO BE ACCEPTED AT CHURCH ON SUNDAY APRIL 17- THURSDAY MAY 19 at noon. The rummage will take donations of many items including clothing & accessories, books, toys/games, craft items, holiday items, housewares/small electronics, art/decorative items, sporting goods, outdoor/gardening equipment and furniture. If you require a pick-up of any large loads or items, please contact Helen Bera 262-424-1658?OR Diane MacBain 262-510-3202?. They will assist you with getting help. All donations will be kept in the social hall along the backwall/window area. Please be respectful of this storage area and keep any young children clear of the boxes/bags during Sundays leading up to the rummage. We will be having volunteers pricing items (as in prior years) to keep our pricing consistent across the sale, so you do NOT need to price items. If you have any item that has a higher value- please attach a note so that we can feature those unique items. We can also accept large items such as cars, trailers, boats, etc... we will sell them online with proceeds to benefit fundraising efforts. The Rummage & Plant sale is the 2nd largest fundraiser of the year for LCUUC!!Please consider donating items that are of a "gently used or worn" quality. I like to say if you see rust, dust, or smell musty... please do not share those items with the sale. In the upcoming weeks the committee will be sending out a sign-up genius and displaying sign-up clipboards in the social hall for volunteers to help with the prep and sale dates. This is a chance to?invest your time into a major church event and?contribute towards?reaching?our fundraising goals?in the budget this year. Chapel Hill Rd., Mequon. Panelists include: Janan Najeeb, President of the Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition and a resident of Mequon Rabbi Ronald Shapiro, Rabbi Emeritus of Congregation Shalom in Fox Point Rev. Scott Hauser, Pastor of Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Mequon The event will focus on Islam, addressing difficult questions and basic teachings. It also will explore perspectives of the three faiths that trace their roots back to Father Abraham -- Islam, Christianity and Judaism -- on questions such as, "Do we all worship the same God? Do the faiths oppress women? How might God respond to those from various faiths who justify the destruction of life and property in God's name?" In February, the Interfaith Conference and the Brookfield-Elm Grove Interfaith Network (BEGIN) held an event on Islam with a different format at the Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove. So many people came that the seats were all filled and latecomers had to be turned away. Crossroads church has a much larger seating capacity. A City of Delafield group, led by Barbra Begale, will be collecting signatures May 1 through June. While the signatures must be only those of residents of the City of Delafield, others may help gather signatures. Our next meeting will be at the Delafield Library, 500 Genesee St., from 5pm to 7pm. The space there is very limited so please let me know if you plan to attend. The link below will give you information on the exact reading of the referendum. I believe the UUA has recently adopted a similar resolution. For those concerned about posting a political item on Lekooks, Rev. Amy said it was okay. This is a non-partisan issue which will stop large sums of money from influencing the entire political spectrum. If enough state legislatures can be convinced, we can overturn the ruling. Message-ID: <20160416.104745.13310.0@webmail09.dca.untd.com> Another update from MidAmerica Region UUA~~~ ---------- Forwarded Message ---------- From: MidAmerica Region UUA To: gymbeau at netzero.com Subject: New Congregational Life Consultant for MidAmerica! Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2016 16:42:22 -0400 (EDT) New Congregational Life Consultant for the MidAmerica Region! To: James Hansen We are proud to announce that the Rev. Sharon Dittmar will be joining our MidAmerica Regional staff team, come August 2016! She will be filling the opening left when Nancy Heege retired this past December. During the search process, we received over 25 applications for this position, and it became a difficult job to pare them down to a reasonable number to interview. Many would have brought incredible gifts and skills to MidAmerica, and although we knew that we could only offer the position to one person, we wish that we were in a position to offer it to several of those we interviewed. Eventually, Sharon was offered the position-we believe that her gifts and skills will enhance our work as a staff team, and that the "fit" is just right. The Rev. Sharon Dittmar is currently the minister at First Unitarian Church in Cincinnati, a position that she has held since 1998. During her tenure there, Sharon has helped develop leadership in the congregation so that they can work toward understanding their mission and vision, articulate their values and goals, and develop a strategic plan to help them become a more vibrant congregation. First has increased their membership more than 20% during Sharon's tenure. In the role of Good Officer she has become a respected source of perspective and advice to her ministerial colleagues. When asked about her successes in ministry, Sharon emphasized the important of developing emotional intelligence and of focusing on developing long-term strategies with partners. Sharon is also developing her own ministerial practice in a way that fits well with our MidAmericaUUA New Leader discussion. She has just completed the Academy of Leadership from Parker Palmer's Center for Courage and Renewal. As Palmer said, "New leadership is needed for new times, but it will not come from finding more wily ways to manipulate the external world. It will come as we serve and teach and lead and find the courage to take an inner journey.... That, faithfully pursued, will take us beyond ourselves to become healers of a wounded world." Intercultural work has been a hallmark of Sharon's time in Cincinnati. First Unitarian Church is located in Avondale -a vibrant African American community with high rates of poverty and violence. The congregation partners with local agencies to tutor children, stock and assist clients at a local food pantry, and house families experiencing homelessness. Sharon and First also work with local immigrant rights organizations and mosques to build relationships and promote tolerance. Sharon has been actively involved in the Avondale Concerned Clergy, the only woman and only European-American in the group. In 2001 Sharon helped First Church to a formal reconciliation with the descendants of the Reverend W. H. G. Carter, a Black Unitarian minister shunned by the AUA in the 1930s. Sharon is well-known for her public speaking, appearing on television, radio, and newspaper interviews, as well as a live-streaming Shabbat service with a local rabbi. Sharon had this to say about her move to being a Congregational Life Consultant in MidAmerica: "I look forward to applying 19 years of ministerial leadership and problem solving to help congregations navigate the challenges of changing ministry in the 21st century. Through training with the Center of Courage and Renewal, I hope to bring renewed focus to questions of purpose, assets, relationship building, innovation, and wonder." Sharon graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received her Master of Divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School. She lives in Cincinnati with her husband and son. Welcome Sharon! MidAmerica Region is building a new era in Unitarian Universalism, where UUs visibly live our faith, create connections, grow our membership, and welcome all persons who share our UU values. Greg looked at obvious problem areas but thinks that there may be something related to the pump or other mechanics that is the source of difficulty. We have purchased a new dishwasher because we decided not to call in a repairman. However, if someone would like to look at fixing it and donating it to our church it has many extended features that our current dishwasher does not, including power scrub, high temp wash, sani-rinse, pots and pans, etc. We'd be willing to add up to $100 for parts if it can be repaired back to its level of functionality. Anyone interested? If so, you would need to get the dishwasher removed by Monday evening since the installer is coming Tuesday or Wednesday with the new unit and this installation contract also includes his removal. We are around all weekend if you want to talk or stop by. Message-ID: <57126D82.5080900@gmail.com> Hi everyone, Could I enlist the help of one or two people to unload the back of my car tomorrow after the service? It will be packed with items for the upcoming LCUUC rummage sale. With my totally bum ankle (yes, I am still putting off the ankle replacement I need) I find carrying moderately heavy boxes to be painful. Also, Jack is currently limited to lifting/carrying no more than 10 pounds, otherwise I would ask him to help me. Those of you who know us may be asking ? why are Kathie and Jack already back in Wisconsin from spending the winter in Florida, and why is Jack limited in what he can carry? The two are related. I have actually been back here since the end of February (Jack returned a couple of weeks before me for some work stuff), because Jack found out he needed a triple heart bypass. He was scheduled for surgery at Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls on March 4. The bypass surgery went very well, he was discharged from the hospital on March 9, and he has been recovering very well since then. He was cleared to go back to work this past week, and life is getting back to normal. The only major restriction is the weight-carrying limit, which is in effect until June ? it takes a fair bit of time for the sternum to mend together again after bypass surgery. We have had a long string of relatives visiting since Jack?s surgery, and during one visit Jack?s sister and our brother-in-law helped me carry a bunch of rummage sale items down from our attic to the garage, and today I am loading it into the car for tomorrow. So? if you can help me to unload and especially to carry everything into the social hall, just catch me after the service. I think it can be done in about 15 minutes. THERE IS A LOVE HOLDING ME. By Heather Rion Starr May I move gently through this cloudy, murky, gray day. May I remember that this is just one day, and that showing up is at least half of what is asked of me. May I set aside my underlying anxiety that I will not get to everything and put my trust and faith onto the riverbank of human community ? we are working together. I am not alone. There is a Love holding me that is unconcerned with my day's to-do list and more concerned with my spirit's survival, even its thriving, in this beautiful, challenging world. May we all remember that Rome wasn't built in a day, that our efforts are part of an ongoing stream of efforts, of lives being lived beside one another, shoring up this world. May what little I do today be for the greater good. May I be gentle with others today as I long for others to be gentle with me. May it be so. I know Rev. Amy is going to be attending, but I am wondering who else besides our high school youth and Kristen Sanden and I. I also need to know for a possible logistics possibility of another adult going for just the ride down on Wed. Jun 22. Please respond to Helen Arens Bera 262-424-1658 cell or email mhbera at wauknet.com thank you. The committee is comprised of representatives from all three of the former districts. The committee is issuing this call to all who are signed up to be Chalice Lighters across the Region. Any monies raised beyond the parameters of the funded projects will be added to a fund that supports new church starts in our Region. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Lansing, Michigan, which is in the midst of construction of a new space, will be awarded funds to support a hearing-loop system for their primary conference / meeting space. Increasing the accessibility of this space to the hearing challenged would help the church fulfill its mission of being a welcoming and fully accessible community; some participants in the Sunday Morning Forum have stopped attending because of the difficulty of hearing in that room. The church is undergoing renovation, funded by the congregation, and the grant will enable the system to be installed more economically while construction is still underway. First Unitarian Church of Omaha, Nebraska will be awarded $1,000 to support preliminary investigation of a potential diverse, new Unitarian presence in Omaha, in collaboration with Second Unitarian and local facilitators. Since there will likely be funds leftover from the Spring Call, additional donations will go into the New and Emerging Congregation Fund. This is a reserve fund that is used to support new or emerging congregations with funds for acquiring space, hiring staff or for outreach and publicity. For this Call, please make an online donation or send in your check by June 15, 2016. You can make the check out to MidAmerica Region, with a note “Chalice Lighters Spring 2016” in the memo line and mail it to: MidAmerica Region, 2355 Fairview Avenue #312, Roseville, MN 55113 We deeply appreciate your generosity in contributing to the MidAmerica Chalice Lighter program. There are several ways you can participate in the Chalice Lighter program, with four suggested levels of donation. These are amounts that would be donated three times each year (Fall, Winter & Spring Calls) upon receipt of the Call Letter. $20 Believer $50 Builder $100 Benefactor $250 Beacon There are several ways you can donate: Mail a check as described above Donate online If you’d prefer, for tax purposes, to make one donation per year (please send the $60 minimum donation or any greater amount to be divided among the next three Calls) you can send in your check now, and we will hold the funds and divide them equally across the three Calls. If you want to make an annual donation, please be sure to note “Annual” in the memo field of your check. For those of you who are annual donors, you are receiving a Call Letter and will receive subsequent letters to keep you updated on what your funds are being used for. You are not being asked to send more money once you have made your annual donation for a given calendar year unless you wish to do so. We know that many of you prefer to receive U. S. mail notices and send in your checks three times a year for each of the Chalice Lighter Calls. We will continue to gratefully handle your donations this way. However, if at all possible, we would like to convert the majority of both announcement letters and donations to electronic, since this saves the program money and time. Please consider switching to use the online system if you are not currently using it. Again, please know that we and the congregations who have and will receive Chalice Lighter Grants are deeply grateful for your generosity! Do the faiths oppress women? How might God respond to those from various faiths who justify the destruction of life and property in God's name?" To counter this ruling, which opened the floodgates for unlimited cash infusions into election campaigns by wealthy donors and corporations, and to corporations refusing insurance coverage to their employees, and services to LGBT people (or, I suppose, anyone else that their religious beliefs allow them to discriminate against), there is a nation-wide movement to amend the Constitution to establish that (1) Only human beings - not corporations, unions, nonprofit organizations or similar associations - are entitled to constitutional rights, and (2) Money is not speech, therefore regulating political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech. 16 state legislatures (not Wisconsin), and 72 Wisconsin counties and municipalities (including Waukesha), have passed resolutions, either by legislative action by governmental bodies, or by direct legislation by referendum. There is a group of people in the City of Delafield who are planning to gather sufficient signatures on a petition to the City to either pass a resolution instructing our state and federal representatives to take appropriate action leading to a constitutional amendment, or place such a resolution on the November 8 election ballot to be voted upon by the people. HOW YOUCAN GET INVOLVED: 1. Help circulate the petitions. You do not have to be a resident of the City of Delafield to do this, just willing to talk to Delafield residents about it by going door-to-door (we have walk lists of likely supporters), or gather signatures at the Delafield library, farmers market, or other place where Delafield residents are likely to go. . COME TO AN ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING AT THE DELAFIELD LIBRARY THIS SUNDAY AT 2 PM, or contact Fran Bills, Barbara Begale, or me. 2. If you a City of Delafield resident, vote in favor of the resolution on November 8. THIS IS HISTORY IN THE MAKING, AND YOU CAN BE PART OF IT! Please contact Barbara Begale, Fran Bills, or me if you have any questions. Gerry Flakas -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you'd like to continue to be involved with this campaign, the next planning meeting will be on Monday, May 9 from 7-8:30pm at UU Church West in Brookfield. Common Ground has also invited us to attend an Open House on "Vision 2050". The Southeast Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission has a long-term proposal for the future of our region that is weak on low-income, no-income and/or workforce housing. Dennis Briley, our Common Ground liaison says "There is some vague language that speaks to this issue and it encourages locating housing and jobs adjacent. But, nothing encourages spreading low-income housing equitably throughout the region. When you attend, it would be good to have your take on this aspect of the issue." If you can attend, it is this Monday, May 2 between 6-8pm at Capitol Drive Lutheran, 5305 W. Capitol Drive, Milwaukee. You can review the Final Proposed Plan, provide comments and leave when done. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The Lybert family has created a pretend bedroom with signs of drug use hidden in plain sight. If you are a parent, I STRONGLY recommend you visit for a free tour if you can! It was incredibly eye opening, and tours are given by the family members themselves. Their son was addicted to heroin for seven years. 138 North Avenue in Hartland * Thursday April 28th 10-2pm * * Friday April 29th Noon - 2pm * Warmly, Brynn Vukelich -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Hello Lekooks, Gymbeau Hansen mentioned this to me a couple months ago but I never got an email out. I know some of you are headed down to Dontre Day in Milwaukee to battle the rain for a good cause. I know some of you will be at the Pasta Party at church starting at 6. But if you are looking for that perfect tri-fecta like me one week ahead of the Kentucky Derby and really want it to be summer even though it will be cold and raining you can head to the Lakeside near my house for the King Solomon Reggae beach party. They are having events all day but the King Solomon Reggae band starts at 9PM. There is a $5 cover charge. According to Facebook the mysterious Gymbeau Hansen will be making an appearance! See you there! http://thelakesidesupperclub.com/event/king-solomon-reggae-beach-party/ Mark -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... These items would make nice Mothers Day gifts, as well as good for yourself. Remember, proceeds from these sales benefit LCUUC and the UU Service Committee as well as the producers of these products themselves. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
