A cautionary tale:

Once upon a time there was an auction item that produced $2,000 or more ($6,000 in one case) when donated to non-profits. It was well received, the non-profits were happy, the donors well pleased, the auction winners delighted, and life
was good. As time passed, year upon year, the people became complacent with the donation. “We see this same thing every year,” they said. “This is not our year,” they said. And they imagined “we will get it next time,” and “we will get invited for free one
day, so why bid?” And the bidding slowed, and the proceeds diminished. In time the donors stopped donating the item to some non-profits, because the proceeds generated did not warrant the anxiety and trouble of doing so; until one day the donors had only
one non-profit to whom they would provide the donation. And that one hung in the balance. The end.

The moral of the story is: Bid like there’s no tomorrow.

And, Joanne Nelson: Let Chris Zirzow do the bidding.

And, remember, Nelson-Zirzows, Peskes, and the rest of you: If you’re under $6,000 you’re under the max, so anything up to that is a good, reasonable number.
