I listened to the sermon a few days later. It was excellent. I know there was a stirring discussion during coffee hour.

Many are deeply disturbed by the destruction of property and looting. I would like to make seversl points.<br>

1. I believe it is a small minority engaging in the destruction of property. There is even some indication that some of it might be perpetrated by white supremacists but I am quite sure much of the damage is being done by actual protestors.<br>

2. Just as we are asked to not assume that the majority of police officers are murderous racists, the public should assume that the majority of black and brown people are not destroying property. All of the villanous mass murderers responsible for horrendous
school shootings were young white males. No one fears every young white males, except perhaps black and brown people.

3. Lives cannot be replaced. Insurance will likely cover the cost of property damaged. Some of the stores being destroyed are owned by wealthy corporations. They are symbols of how black and brown people have been "legally" looted and robbed for centuries.<br>

4. Corporations in the U. S. are people based on the SCOTUS Citizens United decision. Through institutionalized racism, people of color have been "legally" murdered, robbed, barred from an education that could lead to economic success, barred from employment
even when amply qualified, barred from voting, barred from owning property, barred from health care ... and the list is much longer.<br>

I am not condoning the looting. Apparently Madison's famed State Street, really a Wisconsin symbol of Whity's wealth and privilege, is shattered and shuttered. Given the high price of State Street real estate, I am guessing most of the stores are owned by
large corporations. This does not make me happy.<span id="ms-outlook-android-cursor"></span> Nor does it make me weep. It does make me weep that 10% of young black men are in jail. It does make me weep that this leaves young black mothers alone, living in
housing only fit for rats and fearing eviction from shelter that violates housing codes.

And yes, I realize there are poor Ma PA stores also being attacked. I do not approve of the destruction of property. However, it is a complex, layered issue. We must try not to over simplify.
