<div style="font-size:10pt;font-family:arial,helvetica,sans-serif;color:black;"><p class="MsoNormal">The Waukesha County Transportation Coalition just got word
that we are the recipient of the 2017 Special Achievement Award, which “honors
Sierra Club members for a single act of particular importance dedicated to the
Club”. This award will be presented in <st1:place><st1:city>Washington</st1:city>
<st1:state>D.C.</st1:state></st1:place> in September. Our Green Sanctuary
group is a key member of this coalition, so this national honor reflects very
favorably on our group and LCUUC in general.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Green Sanctuary group here at LCUUC was seeking an
environmental justice project, and partnered with the Sierra Club and several other
area faith-based organizations in early 2016 to form the Coalition. It started
with a Sierra Club state-wide “equitable transportation” initiative to
encourage public transportation as an alternative to road-building, to better
service people who are unable to drive, and to reduce the pressure on our
environment from super highways and suburban sprawl. We contacted the Sierra
Club and other area faith-based groups, and the Coalition was born. We have
been meeting monthly at LCUUC, and are working diligently to reach out to users
and supporters of public and subsidized transportation to encourage our state
elected representatives to commit more resources to public transportation and
less to highway building.</p>
