We have a number of smokers this time, and they take their breaks across the driveway from the front door, where there's an ashtray device for them. The first night was just fine, with everyone in their rooms around 9:30. I locked the door at 10, and no one requested to leave after that. No one smoked in their rooms, as far as I can tell.</div><div><br></div><div>There were a few times when the kids got a little too rambunctious, and Volunteer Laurin Discher was able to fairly gently quiet them down. Kids are high-energy, so this is often a delicate situation. We had some requests for pain meds, ibuprophen for a child's toothache, and an adult headache. I found some tylenol and gave the parent two caps. I know we're not supposed to, but the child was in tears from the pain. Another guest (with access to a car) asked to leave to get some Pedialyte for her dehydration, but I said no, and went to walgreen's for her.</div><div><br></div><div>If children are not watched closely enough, I'll mention something. So far, last night was borderline, fairly typical of a first night at a new church.</div><div><br></div><div>Gina, forward this to Martha if you think it's appropriate to do so.</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks, everyone! It is not our job to reprimand, the guests are made aware of these rules by Martha. Please note the behavior in the log book that goes to the Day Center every morning. Martha will read it and remind our guests of the rules. I know it can be hard, but if we relax the rules for our guests to be "nice", it makes it harder for the next church.<br><br></div><div>Under some circumstances a guest parent may ask you to watch their child for a few minutes.
